Turkish Gullet
Turkish Gullet

A Mediterranean island tour with a fitness flourish, on a privately owned Turkish Gullet! Sounds utterly incredible right?! My thoughts exactly. As the trip date got closer, a few reservations crept into my mind. My other extended trips aboard a boat had been on power yachts and other large LMV’s, Luxury Motor Vessels. I became nervous about traveling on a vessel of a less stable nature. When it came time to pack, I made certain to include copious amounts of anti-nausea medications. I also had growing concerns about the accommodations… would they be roomy enough, would my special dietary needs be met… Gloriously, to my absolute delight, all of these worries and any others were washed away like footprints on the shore by the amazing staff and accommodation of the Muhtesem A of the Mediterranean Delights Fitness Voyage.

As I walked toward the rear of the gullet to board that first time, I was immediately struck by the size of the vessel; The Muhtesem A is a 100′ Turkish Gullet! Immediately, from the moment aboard and on through touring, you can feel it’s expanse… and an ease of comfort settled my nerves. While the entire vessel is lovely, a few aspects stand out above the rest in my mind.

The Highlights Of Traveling Aboard A Turkish Gullet

Gullets Are Roomy Boats:  The gullet is a spacious vessel, lay out with more open space than most other large boats. The Aft Deck is the shaded lounge you always dreamt of laying about. Cushions plenty long enough to sleep on line the very aft of the deck, creating the perfect nap, reading or conversation spot. A giant table stretches the width, bringing all the guests to the table to eat as a family. Another considerable more space between the table and helm is big enough to have a belly dance class! The State Rooms are more spacious than those on a LMV of comparable size and sleep accommodation. Our queen bed was of full length with plenty of walk space all around. The room boasts two closets, a bench seat and night tables with drawers. The Shower is full size! Most showers on boats are the size of a phone booth and you exit with so many bruises the discoloration makes one doubt they are clean. The Muhtesem A has showers large enough to turn all about and do the hokey-pokey.

Gullets Are Made To Travel The Mediterranean:  The Turkish gullet is perfect for Mediterranean travel, shaped specifically to carve through salty seas. As we cruised from cove to cove, we crossed some pretty large swells; you felt the rise and fall of the boat on the waves, but not so extreme that sickness overwhelms. A week at sea and I did not need to take a single dose of medication!

Gullet Dining:  Almost as if reading my mind, prior to departure, we were asked for any dietary needs or specifications of which the staff need be made aware. The maximum passenger capacity is 16 people, creating menus to accommodate us was an obtainable feat (not to mention, a feeling of exclusivity). Our Captain, once the chef of a 5 Star Hotel, brings his skills to the modest galley of his vessel along with only the freshest ingredients. His preparations were simple, clean and incredibly delicious! Each meal presented to us seemed to out-do the one before! I never left the table less than fully satiated. As if this was not enough, one of the meals during our trip was prepared by his grandmother in their ancestral home! Magnificent! Of course, not all gullet cruises have the same offerings, so I feel blessed to have chosen a Mediterranean Delight Fitness Voyage.

And the @mdfvoyage is off! Bon Voyage! #mdfv2015 #travel
